Interestingly the man was already in jail since 1994 for the rape and murder of his sister-in-law, and can't be convicted for these serial murders because of the statute of limitations (and neither can the cops who forced a false confession from another suspect). This is nicely bookended with a more recent featurette where Bong talks about his reaction after the real killer was identified based on DNA evidence sometime in 2019-20. All the prominent cast and crew members reminiscence about the shoot and describe a happy working process, despite sometimes very trying weather conditions and having to shoot in multiple locations to recreate the late 80's setting. There is a lot of footage from the film's making (including several shots of the policeman actors kicking down their co-stars for real, ouch). Bong is an articulate speaker and was obviously passionate about the story and the film (he even contemplated trying to solve the case using all the information he and his crew had gathered from various sources). It's a terrific feature, the sort that is very hard to come by these days. I suspect this docu might be present even on my previous CJE disc, but on that one, only the main feature has Eng subs and even the menus are in Korean, so I can't be sure. Over the past few days, I was watching the Criterion bonus disc for Memories of Murder, which includes the 2.5hr retrospective making of. Admittedly it looks better when doing A/B comparisons, but it's not reflective at all of the experience I remember in theaters. I think that previous blu ray transfer was probably just altered or used an unfinished master. The oldest trailer I found happens to be a French one from 10 years ago, and the colors look exactly like what I remember from the theaters. Trailers all look dark and bleak like the screencaps of the recent Criterion release. Just adding to my own message from last night to say I was looking at Youtube for trailers of Memories of Murder to see if I could find any reflecting the very colorful and brighter blu ray release screenshots I saw on Caps-a-holic, and the end result was that I couldn't. Reading the discussion on these two color transfers I thought I'd share my impressions and recollections. Title : Commentry by Tony Ryans Language : English Service kind : Complete Main Default : No Forced. Version 4 File size : 19.5 GiB Duration : 2 h 10 min Overall bit rate : 21.3 Mb/s Movie name : Encoded by mAck Memories of Murder (2003) Genre. I don't have this in any form on blu ray (or on any format) and haven't seen it since that day almost 20 years ago, but the movie still left a strong enough impression on me. Memories of Murder (2003) Remastered (2160p UHD BluRay x265 10bit EAC3 5.1 Korean - mAck). I don't ever remember seeing scenes this colorful and this bright in this movie. For what it's worth I saw this film in theaters when I was living in Paris, France around 2003 (was in Korean with French subs), and I recall the movie being really dark, with day scenes looking grim and dark too, at least my recollection of the movie looks pretty close to what I'm seeing on the caps for the Criterion.
